European Mobility Week

Hockley Street Fayre took place on Saturday 19th September 2015, as part of European Mobility Week. It was delivered by The Big Wheel and Sustrans in collaboration with the Creative Quarter and Nottingham City Council. The event was funded by Nottingham City Council, through the Local Sustainable Transport Fund (LSTF).

The Local sustainable Transport Fund was a Government funded programme of initiatives which received over £16m funding from the Department of Transport from 2011 to March 2016.

What is European Mobility Week?

It’s a Europe-wide initiative and campaign which runs from 16th – 22nd September every year and celebrates and promotes the use of sustainable modes of travel. And September 22nd is World Car Free Day where events are held in some cities and countries.

The campaign aims to encourage those with cars to think about other ways of travelling; to help improve the environment by choosing greener options like trains, trams, buses, cycling and walking.

The theme for 2015 was“Choose. Change. Combine.” – all about the use of different modes of transport to complete a journey.

There are many benefits of travelling sustainably to everyday destinations such as to and from work, local shops or leisure trips. Reducing stress and improving your fitness, relaxing, reading or simply enjoying the scenery.
