Let’s get physical…
New Cycling for Health initiative a runaway success
At the Big Wheel we’ve been saying for ages how brilliant cycling is as a sustainable form of transport – it’s an ideal way to get around knowing you’re doing your bit to keep our planet healthy. Now our friends at the Nottingham PCT and Ridewise are reminding you all of what a brilliant way cycling is to keep fit and healthy with their new Cycling for Health initiative.
Cycling for Health was launched to stakeholders in November 2007 as a way to help people to lead healthier lifestyles. Cycling is an easy, fun, and economical way to improve health and longer term wellbeing, and they want everyone in Nottingham to know it! This month 25 people are going to learn how to get you all cycling your way to better health – so there’ll be more Health Trainers, Physical Activity Advisors, Exercise Referral Consultants and RideWise Instructors and that’s great news.
The news is spreading fast – in its first month 9 people took on the challenge and got Cycling for Health training and more applications are coming in all the time. In fact the initiative has been too popular for its own good – there just aren’t enough bikes to go around! A high percentage of applicants haven’t got their own bike, so the team is putting out a request for bike donations. Whether you’ve recently upgraded your bike and don’t know what to do with your old one, or you’re simply feeling charitable, all help will be gratefully received.
