British cyclists impress at the Olympics with 14 medals to date
Here at the Big Wheel we’re tickled pink by Great Britain’s cycling success in the Beijing Olympics. Just today we’ve won 2 golds and 1 silver on the track, which takes our total of cycling medals overall to an impressive 14 – so far!
Bradley Wiggins, winner of 2 of our 8 cycling golds, has said he was inspired to take up cycling when he saw Chris Boardman win gold at the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona. Well, if 8 golds aren’t inspiring then we don’t know what is!
Caught cycling fever but need a bit of help to get you back into the saddle? There are loads of people in Nottingham ready to give you a helping hand.
RideWise provide free cycle training for both adults and children. They train you to the level you need – whether you want to go for leisurely bike rides or to commute on busy roads. If you’re keen to get involved in the Nottingham cycling scene try talking to Pedals, a local action group, who can tell you what’s what. The Big Wheel can help with a whole host of free maps and resources – the cycling section of our website will tell you all you need to know about getting about by bike, with more links to cycling organisations.
And if you think you (or one of your little darlings) could be the next Chris Hoy or Nicole Cooke you could join a cycling club. British Cycling is the main governing body for the sport in Great Britain and their website has listings for cycle clubs – whether you fancy yourself as a track cyclist, a BMX champion or a mountain biker.
If you want to cycle for business, pleasure or medals there’s someone who can help you on your bike, so give it a go and enjoy cycling!
