Join in National Liftshare Day
Monday 9th June is National Liftshare Day, an annual event with the aim of getting more people to car share when travelling for work or leisure. Every day there are over 10 million empty spaces in cars across the country and car sharing is a great way of reducing the numbers of single occupancy journeys.
Nottinghamshare is a partnership between, Nottinghamshire County Council, Nottingham City Council, the Greater Nottingham Transport Partnership and liftshare (a national car sharing scheme) which provides an online local network for people to car share. The site can match you with people in the region who are making similar journeys – saving you time and money, as well as improving congestion and the environment.
The Nottinghamshare scheme makes it really easy to sign up online and find a potential match for your journeys. The scheme is completely free, can be used for regular as well as one-off journeys and you can join even if you don’t drive or have your own transport. There’s also a handy cost calculator to help you to work out the potential savings you’ll make by car sharing – regular car sharers can easily save over £1,000 a year – good news with petrol prices set to keep on rising!
Don’t forget that you don’t need to share all of the time - choosing to share journeys just some of the time means you can save money on fuel and car maintenance as well as doing your bit to help the environment!
