£100m to make Britain’s cars cleaner and greener

£100m to boost electric car use in Britain

The bright sparks in the government have announced that they’re going to spend a whopping £100m on kick-starting the popularity of the electric car.

Councils and organisations like Royal Mail will be given electric and low-carbon vehicles, while 100 electric cars will be available for families – only cars with low-emissions, that is!  Cash will be put into research into how to make electric cars practical and affordable for everyone.

Electric cars could help to cut the huge levels of carbon and other nasty gases that are released every year.  Transport creates huge amounts of carbon, but at the moment low carbon alternatives aren’t popular.  The batteries in electric cars can be expensive and finding places to charge them isn’t always easy – the money will be used to try to find solutions to these problems.

The government has committed to reducing carbon emissions – to help protect our environment – and environmental groups like Greenpeace say it’s a great step.
