Businesses local to Nottingham have really started to feel the benefits of green initiatives in the support they receive from local government. An example of this is a cycle courier business called Pedal express. Pedal Express was established in 1998 to provide businesses in Nottingham with a fast and reliable delivery service that also helped to tackle the problem of increasing traffic congestion and pollution in Nottingham. With their dedication to environmentally friendly transport and the support of Nottingham City Council their business has developed dramatically over the past few years.
Pedal Express began with just two cycle couriers carrying out small urgent document deliveries to and from businesses of up to a 3 miles radius of Nottingham City Centre. With the introduction of bicycle trailers and load carrying bikes they were able to turn to a zero emission delivery service for moving large items.
Pedal express was then able to increase their delivery capacity still further with the purchase of electric powered vans that were funded by an energy saving grant directed through the Nottingham City Council.
Today, many years on from making their first delivery, they can now arrange for a delivery in the UK to be carried out by bicycle and train or linked into the many same day or next day delivery networks, all with the aim of getting the delivery carried out quickly and energy efficiently. Now with a selection of energy efficient vehicles, some of which can access the vehicle restricted areas of the Nottingham City Clear Zone, more businesses can see the benefits of using the services of Pedal Express.
