Get on your feet with the help of the City and County Councils

Nottingham City and Nottinghamshire County Councils writers of the joint LTP have a vested interest in getting you all out walking.  They want happier, healthier residents, a greener city with cleaner air and less traffic on the roads so that’s why they want to help you get out of your car and on your feet.

The City Council is working hard to improve walking routes in and around Nottingham, they’ve already done lots to improve areas such as Maid Marian Way, which has been transformed into a pedestrian friendly highway.  There is still more to be done though, and they have ambitious plan to improve even more walking routes to ensure easy access to the City Centre from every direction.

As well as creating and improving walking routes they are also busy mapping all the existing routes click here for details.  And if you can’t wait for their mapping project to end there is a City Walks pack available email us for a copy, which contains a series of routes that you can use to get into town or simply if you want to take a leisurely stroll at lunch. For further details of places to walk in the City and City walks click on the links.

While the City Council is busy with all this the County Council is working equal hard outside of the City boundaries.  They have produced a series of leaflets – all available on their website – that tell you how to get around the county.  From walking routes to info on guided walks there’s everything you need to know.  They even have a factsheet on rights of way so that if you want to explore on your own you can’t be sure you’re always on the right track.

The County Council also organises the popular Walk Week – an annual celebration of walking that encourages everyone to get out and give walking a try.  For more details on Walk Week visit www.walkweek.org
