The Future

the future – there’s still a lot to do

Instead of just being a route from A to B, transport helps people to live their lives to the full. Our integrated transport network must, therefore, remain effective, affordable, easy to use and to understand. We need to continue to meet the needs of our residents and businesses and to build on our existing infrastructure in order to create a world-class sustainable network.

It is important for the growth and development of Greater Nottingham that we continue to move forward with new ideas, innovative solutions and the reinforcement of our achievements to date.

We’ve got lots of things in the pipeline and work is well underway on a whole host of activities to keep our roads, businesses and people moving.

Cycling and Walking

Cycling and walking have a big part to play in making sure that everyone can get around. Cycling infrastructure is being improved and extended and primary pedestrian routes into the City have been created to help people to move around more quickly, more easily and more safely.

The Tram

NET Line One has been hugely successful and carries over 30,000 per day, connecting north Nottinghamshire and the Phoenix Park & Ride with the city centre. Proposals are currently being investigated for 2 further lines to be added to the current infrastructure, providing a more extensive tram network.

The Roads

Major road schemes will continue to improve and revitalise existing networks, transforming the area and creating efficient links to the City for all travellers.

The Ring Road Major scheme will see comprehensive changes to the area, enhancing connectivity by prioritising public transport, implementing road safety schemes, putting walking and cycling provisions in place, improving capacity at junctions, easing congestion and improving air quality.

The Train Station

Every year Nottingham contributes £11 billion to the UK economy and the train station is central to connecting the City to the region, to the UK and to Europe. The scheme will see the train station undergo a dramatic redevelopment into The Hub, the heart of the integrated transport network. This development will transform Nottingham station into one of the world’s finest rail stations and public transport interchanges.

Improving Greater Nottingham’s transport is about much more than just trams, trains, buses, walking and cycling. It’s about our region, our businesses, our people, our lives and our environment. It’s about improving accessibility and connections, enhancing our image and maximizing investment. It’s about adding to our vibrant region and creating opportunities. It’s also about reducing congestion and safeguarding our environment.
