How can I get involved? I live too far from work to cycle or walk and there are no buses near me.

Why don’t you try car sharing? There is a private Lenton Area Car Share network and also a larger Nottinghamshare network. They are both free to join and see if anyone else is doing a similar trip to your self. The beauty of Car Sharing is that you can remove up to 3 other cars from the road and save money whislt you are doing it. Alternatively you could try using one of the 7 Park & Ride sites around the City with over 4,000 parking spaces. Park & Ride is a good alternative for people traveling from rural areas as you can get close to your destination without having to enter the most congested parts of the City and take the fast, frequent bus from there.
Ultimately you could speak to your employer and see if working from home is an option. It’s the best way to reduce vehicle trips!

Why should I change my travel habits? I paid for this car and it’s expensive!

You don’t have to cycle, walk or catch the bus to work everyday to contribute. If everyone left their car at home for just one day a week then there would be 20% fewer vehicles on the road everyday! There is something available for everyone and we hope everyone will be prepared to try some of the alternatives. If you’re not part of the solution you are a part of the problem!

Why are you forcing us out of our cars when it’s parents driving their kids to school that causes the problem?

The Lenton Area Travel Plan is not forcing anyone to do anything. We are simply trying to make the ‘Smarter’ travel choices more attractive and people aware of what is available to them. Travel Planning in Nottingham City is not only designed to empower employees to try sustainable forms of transport, we are also working with shops, hospitals, leisure venues, colleges and schools to help empower all City residents by informing them about the realistic transport choices available to them.

How can I apply for a public transport season ticket and how much will it cost me?

Season tickets are available from all local and national transport operators. Nottingham City Transport, Trent Barton, NET Tram and National Rail all offer reduced rate annual season tickets. Alternatively it is now possible to enter a salary sacrifice scheme that entitles you to purchase an annual bus pass from your gross salary, potentially saving you up to 40%! Please contact your organisations Travel Plan coordinator for more details (details in Contacts section).

If I cycle to work I want to make sure I have somewhere safe and secure to lock up my bike. How can I ensure this?

Many organisations are upgrading their cycle parking facilities at their workplaces. For further information specific to your place of work, please contact your organisations Area Travel Plan coordinator (details in Contacts section).
