Stage 1: Making the Application
- Consider whether your good practice really meets the brief in the theme guide
- Talk to colleagues who've 'Beaconed' before
- Think hard about capacity and staff resources for the application process and a possible Beacon year
- Attend a regional briefing and consult www.beacons.idea.gov.uk
- Start preparing your application well in advance of the deadline
- Draw on existing materials and strategies
- Be concise and stick to points that add value
- Explain jargon and acronyms
- For joint applications share the responsibility for preparing the bid
