Accessibility planning events share good practice
The Nottinghamshire partnership held a series of workshops in January, February and March 2009 to explore some of our accessibility initiatives in more detail. Led by key members of the City and County Council’s Transport Strategy and Public Transport teams, the events introduced delegates from both the local authority as well as the public and voluntary sectors, to the successful strategies employed by the councils to tackle complex aspects of accessibility planning.
A range of speakers gave their time to support the events including the Under Secretary of State for Transport, Paul Clark, Councillors Brian Parbutt and Stella Smedley, and representatives from our partners such as P&MM and Stagecoach.
The interesting and thought-provoking presentations were very well received and covered topics ranging from ways to encourage greener travel to transport planning, as well as allowing delegates some hands-on experience of the NOMAD plus data sharing web resource. There were also some insightful study tours by bus and tram.
All the speakers’ presentations as well as the notes made at each of the events can now be downloaded in pdf format.
There were a number of photographs taken at The Bassetlaw Experience event held in Worksop on the 25th February, a selection of which can be viewed here.
Transport accessibility partnership goes from strength to strength November 2008
Earlier this year Nottingham City Council and Nottinghamshire County Council were awarded Beacon status for their achievement in helping local people access work, learning, health, leisure and shopping. Our network of link buses played a large part in this success.
Members of the City Council's Transport Strategy, Public Transport and GIS teams along with colleagues from the County Council's Transport Services and Nottingham City and Nottinghamshire County Teaching Primary Care Trusts showcased some of their ideas for improving access to health in September at a Beacon Learning Exchange event in London organised by IdeA. To see the case studies presented at our workshop go to the Health section.
The Learning Exchange also showcased the work of fellow Beacon authorities Lancashire County Council, Peterborough City Council, Mersey Travel and London Borough of Greenwich.
The Nottinghamshire partnership is planning a series of workshops in January, February and March designed for local authority and public and voluntary sector colleagues to help others to tackle aspects of accessibility planning. Subjects will include:
- How to use smartcards like the successful Citycard
- The link bus network
- How to improve access in rural areas
- Looking at NOMAD+ web portal and data sharing.
