The Nottinghamshire Accessibility Planning Partnership
We believe that strong partnership working with a range of partners and groups is key to improving accessibility.
The Accessibility Partnership for Nottinghamshire was set up in 2004 as the main mechanism to identify and tackle accessibility problems with external partners.
The Partnership comprises a Wider Reference Group (WRG) and a Steering Group. The WRG is used for wider consultation on enhancing accessibility, while the Steering Group drives the direction and development of the Accessibility Strategy, influencing policy and mainstream accessibility issues through the representatives’ own networks.
The Accessibility Planning Partnership includes representatives from different departments across each authority (children's services, leisure, adult social care and health, planning and transport). Dialogue continues through the authorities’ individual cross-departmental arrangements to improve co-ordination of service delivery and resources.
The authorities have hosted 4 partnership events since September 2004 to support the development of the Accessibility Strategy. The most recent was held in June 2007 to agree the priorities for action for 2007/8 onwards.
The Accessibility Planning Partnership Zone on the NOMAD+ data sharing website is being developed as the hub for the ongoing partnership working and seeks to:
- Raise awareness of accessibility issues when planning new services.
- Promote mapping and modelling support (available from the City and County Councils) to help future developments and services be planned in a way that will maximise access for users.
- Explore opportunities for joint working and adding value by co-ordinating resources.
