Case Studies

These case studies demonstrate a mix of approaches to improving accessibility including providing local link bus services, supporting rural social enterprise and providing practical help to vulnerable groups. Additionally, studies to assess access to healthy affordable food in Ashfield and Nottingham City have been developed in partnership with the Food Initiatives Group FIG.

Initiatives such as the locallink buses and the shopping service are making a real difference to people's quality of life by helping them to retain their independence:

"What a great service you have provided... It's fabulous for the very elderly & disabled giving the community the opportunity to hop on and off the bus when required... the driver of the bus, she is excellent, so very kind, caring and helpful."

Mr X is 61 years old and is the main carer for his wife. Whilst Mr X was in hospital for an operation Mrs X had to stay in a care home. Their social worker arranged for the Shopping Service to provide a volunteer to do their shopping when the couple returned home. As Mr X regained his strength and confidence he started to accompany the volunteer to the supermarket. After a couple of months of support Mr X felt ready to go shopping without the volunteer. Mr X said that the shopping volunteer had been very understanding and very helpful in all aspects of shopping. Mr X is now fully recovered from his operation and able to get on with his life and support his wife as he did before.
