The Big Wheel is all about getting you around Greater Nottingham using the sustainable network of trams, trains, buses, walking and cycling. And to help you find cheaper, quicker and healthier ways to get from A to B. We can give you information and advice to help you change the way you travel for the better. Get on board The Big Wheel to discover how you can help turn transport around!
Our work is based on the Local Transport Plan, the document produced for the Government by the City and County Councils that outlines the strategy for Nottingham’s transport network. You can read all about it here.
We are supported as part of the Nottingham Urban Area’s successful Local Sustainable Transport Fund (LSTF) programme – a 4-year partnership, which has secured £15.245 million through the Department of Transport. For further details visit www.nottingham.gov.uk/lstfprojects
Why The Big Wheel?
Nottingham people care about their air – the last Big Wheel survey showed air quality was the public’s top transport concern. And according to the Chamber of Commerce, the UK’s businesses lose £20 billion a year as a result of congestion.
With traffic giving off around a quarter of the world’s carbon dioxide, we all have a big responsibility to think about the way we get around. There is a wider sense, too, in which transport links to the environment, and that is in improving your neighbourhood – cutting traffic noise, improving public spaces and making streets safer.
The Big Wheel plays a major part in reducing congestion, providing direct links into the City Centre on the sustainable network. This transport network helps to safeguard our environment, reducing harmful greenhouse gas emissions through the use of greener modes of transport.
