Track and signalling improvements at Nottingham Train Station get the go-ahead

Nottingham Train Station Improvements

Nottingham Train Station Improvements

Nottingham’s train station is set to benefit from a massive £9.8m to upgrade track and train signals.  This will decrease congestion at the station, speed up services and improve reliability, which is excellent news.

The Office of Rail Regulation announced its decision on Thursday 30 October 2008, after declaring in June 2008 that only a like-for-like replacement was needed.  Since then the Nottingham City and Nottinghamshire County Councils, local businesses, train operators and MPs have lobbied for the funding to be approved.

This money will be used to build an extra platform at the station, to add extra points to the track – to allow trains to switch tracks more easily – and to allow all four tracks to be used in both directions.

The ORR has also confirmed that they will approve a £55m scheme to improve the Midland Mainline, which will speed up journey times to London.  These plans will complement The Hub proposals, which will transform Nottingham Train Station into a modern, fully accessible transport interchange.  Both projects are due to be completed in December 2011.

We’d like to say “well done” to everyone involved in lobbying for these improvements and we look forward to the speedier train services they will bring!
