The Big Wheel effect 2: Return of the geek

Published on November 14, 2008

Firstly I´ve got to start by saying how sorry I am that I´ve neglected this blog – apologies to you all.

Once again I´ve found that working at the Big Wheel has brought out my inner transport geek. I didn´t even know I had an inner transport geek until now!

This week I went down to Stratford-Upon-Avon with two of my friends to see Hamlet. (Yes the one with David Tennant and Patrick Stewart in – it was as good, if not better, than expected but I digress…) We decided that the easiest way to get there would be if one of my friends drove – car sharing is a great way to cut your carbon footprint remember!

Anyway we were driving down the A46, one friend driving, the other with her trusty set of AA directions and I was keeping a close eye on the map. My friend behind the wheel was approaching a roundabout and asked which exit to get off at – I looked up to see the sign and spotted the magic words “park and ride”. I told my friend which exit to take and we carried on.

But I kept thinking about the park and ride. I knew how much easier than driving around an unfamiliar town centre it would be. Even though I knew we had a free parking permit waiting for us at the hotel, the park and ride was haunting me… I was just about to open my mouth to ask if we could pretty please go to the park and ride when my friend noticed that we had exactly 5 minutes to get into town – and no idea how long it would take us. I decided that, on reflection, mentioning anything that could make the journey longer wouldn´t go down well.

Ah, well, there´s always next time…
