Hi! Its Richard again, a temporary Big Wheeler. Recently, I went on a tram ride from one end of the line to the other and I thought I would tell you what I thought… I got on the tram at old market square to go to Phoenix Park. I found a seat by the window and the tram jolted into action. As we left the station, the conductor asked for my ticket and I showed her my kangaroo pass. The kangaroo pass enables you to hop on, hop off any train, tram or bus in Greater Nottingham. From
Old Market Square to Phoenix Park, there are 13 stops. These include, Nottingham Trent University, Wilkinson Street, David Lane and Phoenix Park. The journey time from Phoenix Park to Station Street is around 25 minutes. Sounds like a long time, but goes very quickly due to the speed of the tram in some parts. I arrived in Phoenix Park, next to the park and ride. Walking out towards the car park, I noticed that it was virtually full! This wasn´t what I was expecting as it is a weekday! The popularity of it shows how successful the trams have been in getting people to leave their cars outside of the city and using the tram to go to work, therefore decreasing congestion. After having a look around, I got on the tram again and went just a few stops to David Lane. Here, I got off and headed across to the Northbound line going towards Hucknall. The journey was just over 12 minutes from David Laneto Hucknall. The number of people on the tram decreased, as we got further towards Hucknall. On arriving in Hucknall, I went and had a look around the tram station. There was another park and ride, which was again, full! I also noticed that a lot of people where waiting for the tram at Hucknall. Again, showing the success and popularity of the tram.
After a quick look around, I went back to the tram station and caught the tram back towards Nottingham. This got busier as we got further into Nottingham, and when we got to Hyson Green Market, the tram was totally full.
All of this has shown me what a good thing trams are for the city of Nottingham, and I highly recommend using them and the kangaroo tickets!
