A survey carried out in the autumn of last year found that passengers continue to be extremely satisfied with tram travel in Nottingham. There has also been an increase in the number of people who support plans to introduce new tram routes.
For the sixth year running a survey was carried out among NET tram passengers to find out customer satisfaction, awareness and usage of the tram system in Nottingham.
Around 1300 people responded to the independent survey commissioned by Nottingham Tram Consortium, via on-tram questionnaires between 7am to 7pm over a period of a week along the tram route.
The results showed an overall satisfaction with the tram service of 94% which is 2% higher than 2008. Satisfaction levels with the experience on-board the trams and at the tram stops both increased compared to previous years as did satisfaction with the NET website.
The research revealed that tram passengers continue to use the service extensively for commuting to work, school, college and university, and also for leisure purposes. This year improved scores were seen for tram reliability, journey times and staff friendliness. Passengers also felt that the information about the tram has improved with better timetables, at stop information and an improved website.
Accessibility scored highly too especially for people with buggies and wheelchairs an improvement of 6% to 68% indicating that NET is ideal for family trips.
89% of respondents were in favour of developing the tram network to other areas of Nottingham. The reasons given in support of an extension of additional tram lines were:
- ease of use and convenience
- congestion and the reduction of cars on the roads
- other environmental and wider benefits to be enjoyed in the city.
- Respondents definitely view the Tram as a socially responsible and efficient solution to these issues.
Councillor Jane Urquhart, Portfolio Holder for Transport and Area Working at Nottingham City Council, said: “Customer satisfaction with the tram has remained incredibly high since Line One opened over five years ago. People really do appreciate and enjoy using quick, reliable and clean public transport. That’s why it makes complete sense to extend the tram network by adding two more lines so that even more people can benefit from using our very popular tram.”
The results of the survey can be seen on the NET website at www.thetram.net
