Improvements for pedestrians and cyclists at Phoenix Park

Published on February 24, 2010

Starting from Monday 1st March 2010, for approximately nine weeks, Nottingham City Council will be improving the junction of the Phoenix Park & Ride site for pedestrians and cyclists.

As part of the improvements, the City Council will be altering the west bound lanes, installing new traffic lights and making the pedestrian refuges bigger.

Councillor Jane Urquhart, Portfolio Holder for Transport and Area Working at Nottingham City Council; said: “The improvements will make it easier for visually impaired people and people with limited mobility to cross the A610 and Millennium Way, by lowering the crossing so it is level with the road. Tactile cones will be installed at the traffic lights, making it safer for blind and partially sighted people to cross the road.

“The improvements will also improve access to the new cycle lockers at the Park & Ride on Phoenix Business Park.”

To make sure that the works can be carried out safely and quickly, temporary traffic restrictions will be in place from the 1st March until the improvements are complete.

The right turn (from the A610) into Millennium Way, leading to Phoenix Business Park, will be closed. Traffic from the city will be able to follow a diversion route via the Nuthall roundabout, the A610 Woodhouse Way junction.

The right turn out of Millennium Way (onto the A610), will also be temporarily closed. Traffic will be diverted left towards Cinderhill roundabout and onto the A610. A 40mph speed limit will be in place from the Cinderhill roundabout to the Broxtowe Inn.

Temporary daytime lane closures will be in place from 9.30am to 3.30pm while we are working on those parts of the junction.

There will also be slight changes to the routes for the Veolia Phoenix Flyer and Trent Barton Rainbow 1 services during the works. Passengers are being advised to contact Trent Barton on 01773 712265 or Veolia transport on (0115) 9007082 for changes.
