Nottingham’s bus services celebrate their success
Last week two of Nottingham’s bus services achieved success in the UK Bus Awards. NCT were awarded for Winning New Customers, while trent barton’s bus driver Barry was named Best Bus Driver.
NCT beat off tough competition from five other entries to take the Department for Transport Winning New Customers Award. This rewarded their success in West Bridgford, where a third of customers now leave the car at home and get the bus instead, which is a great result.
Last year NCT spent £3m in the area on swanky new buses with extra luxuries more commonly found in cars. They promoted the news buses with a witty campaign that mimicked ads for cars describing each bus as “a vehicle so advanced, you don’t even have to drive it!” And the campaign had a real impact – 65% of new customers said that it persuaded them to get on the bus.
Meanwhile trent barton’s Barry Allitt is pleased as punch to be named as the Best Bus Driver in Britain. Barry, who is a driver and team leader on the Radcliffe line services, says:
“This is absolutely fantastic. It was … really nice to be recognised for the job I do. If I can make a passenger’s day, then it’s been a good day.”
Congratulations to the two companies on their success!
