Ruth Kelly MP, Secretary of State for Transport, came to Nottingham on Wednesday to celebrate a new bus service connecting to the NET line one tram at Phoenix Park.
While she was here the Transport Secretary praised Nottingham’s joined up delivery and the fantastic links between buses and trams that make getting around Greater Nottingham a breeze. She was especially impressed by the tram, which she was seeing for the first time. As she said, the transport system “offers people a real choice … and makes it easy for people to leave their cars at home, reducing congestion in Nottingham.”
Plans for NET phase 2 – the introduction of 2 new tram lines – will be given to Ms Kelly in July. She will make the final decision as to whether the scheme will go ahead, which is expected in early 2009.
