Jon Collins, leader of Nottingham City Council, will cycle from Paris to Nottingham in five days to raise money for charity.
You heard us right, Councillor Jon Collins is swapping his suit for cycling gear and will bike from Paris to Nottingham – in just five days! And he’s not alone, ex-Councillor John Taylor, Jill Wilkinson from the Charity Keys to Success and a support team from Nottingham City Homes will join him on the adventure.
Their aim is ambitious, setting out from Paris on Tuesday 14th April 2009 they hope to get back on Saturday 18th April 2009. If all goes according to plan they’ll celebrate completing their challenge by watching Nottingham Forest FC play Coventry at the City Ground on Saturday.
So what’s it all for? The daring team is trying to raise £10,000 for the Danielle Beacon Memorial Trust. Danielle Beacon was tragically killed in a drive by shooting, the Trust was set up to honour her memory and to do positive work in the community she called home. So far £130,000 has been raised towards a dance studio and activity for St Ann‘s. As well as being Danielle’s favourite past time, dancing and other performing arts give young people the chance to express themselves and create something meaningful.
It’s a tall order, but the team is up for the challenge. Everyone here at the Big Wheel would like to wish them good luck – see you at the City Ground on the 18th!
