…and join in the celebrations for National Bike Week 2009.
Bike Week is one of the Big Wheel’s favourite times of year, when we can get out there and show the world why we love cycling so much. In case you don’t know it’s a national celebration of cycling and this year it takes place from 13th to 21st June 2009. There are loads of fun events happening to mark the occasion; here’s a few of our top picks:
Wheelie Big Breakfast – Wednesday 17th June, 8am to 10am, Old Market Square
The Big Wheel, in association with Nottingham City and Nottinghamshire County Council, is bringing you the annual Wheelie Big Breakfast. Cycle down to Nottingham’s Old Market Square between 8am and 10am and you’ll receive a free breakfast as a ‘thank you’ for your effort. There will also be fun cycling and health related activities happening – including free massages, free bikes checks and chance to ride some unusual bikes. You can also find out more about cycling in Greater Nottingham from a variety of experts – including Ridewise, the councils and Nottingham City PCT.
Great Nottinghamshire Bike Ride – Sunday 21st June, National Water Sports Centre
The Big Wheel is once again lending its support to the Great Notts Bike Ride, organised by Nottinghamshire County Council and sponsored by Boots. With routes varying from lap challenges to 75 miles there is something for everyone – whatever your age or ability. You can even raise money for charity while you ride.

Bike Week Exhibition – daily, Castle Galleries, Exchange Arcade
The lovely team at Castle Galleries Nottingham in the Exchange Arcade are putting together a special cycling exhibition to run throughout Bike Week. The exhibition will feature sculptures, prints and paintings on a cycling theme from some of the country’s leading artists, including Alexander Millar, Paul Horton and Mackenzie Thorpe. This promises to be the artistic highlight of the cycling calendar, don’t miss out.
