Run Robin, run!

Travel information for the Robin Hood Marathon, taking place this Sunday 13th September 2009

So you’re gearing up to take part in the Robin Hood Marathon or Half Marathon this Sunday.  You’ve got your running shoes sorted and are planning to have a pasta dinner and to go to bed early the night before.  But wait – have you thought about how you’re going to get there?

With thousands of runners taking to the streets and lots of roads closing to make way for them, it’s a good time to think about leaving your car at home.  You’d be in good company – since the marathon started the number of cars using the car parks have reduced by half.  Quite simply, there’s never been a better time to think about going car-free for the day.

Special free Eventlink services will be running from Queens Drive Park and Ride taking both runners and spectators down to the Victoria Embankment from approximately 7am – 9:15am.  There will also be a return service taking everyone back to the park and ride site from approximately 11am – 4pm.

The start line is not far from the train station, the Station Street tram stop and the city centre.  Why not try using public transport to get you that far and walk or jog the rest as a warm up for the event?  You should have received walking routes from the event organisers and don’t forget that the Big Track is a car-free walking route that’ll take you from the city centre right to the Victoria Embankment.

Remember if you do have to use a car set out early and offer to share the ride with another runner, you’ll be cutting the cost – and the carbon footprint – of your journey in half.

Good luck to everyone taking part in the event, Kanga will be at the start line cheering you on.  Remember to wave if you see him!

Not sure where Queens Drive Park and Ride is – or how park and ride site work?  Visit our park and ride page for more information.
