Walk Week 27th April – 1st May 2009

Published on April 1, 2009

Get on your feet and join in National Walk Week – it’s fun, free and will help you get fit.

Walking is a wonderful, wallet-friendly way to get fit.  You don’t need any special equipment, a walk in the fresh air will do your mind and body the world of good and it’s kind to the planet.  And there’s no better time to start walking than Walk Week – when there’ll be free events and guided walks happening across Nottingham.

Wednesday 29th April is Walk to Work Wednesday so make an extra special effort to walk into work, and why not get your colleagues to take part too?

Are you a new mum?  Want a way to exercise with your babies and young children?  Pushy Mothers is a group that can help you to do just that.  There’s a free taster session on Thursday 30th April at 2pm in Woodthorpe Park, call 07979 520 085 to take part.

Want something a bit different?  Try Nordic Walking, an amazing new way to exercise that’ll work out all sorts of muscles you didn’t know you had!  There are two taster sessions on Friday 1st May one at 10am in Rushcliffe Country Park and another at 12pm at County Hall, West Bridgford.  Call 07940 575 758 to book your free place.

What about if you’re after a more regular walk?  Well, the Best Foot Forward programme runs regular guided walks throughout Nottingham – wherever you are there’s a walk near you.  Call Ali on 0115 919 4877 for your free brochure.  If you’re already a keen walker and want to get more involved with the programme, why not train to become a Volunteer Walk Leader? Call Ali on 0115 919 4877 for all the details.

If you can’t make any of these events, but are keen to find out more about getting into walking lots of different groups will be in the Old Market Square on Saturday 2nd May.  They can answer any of your questions about walking.  The fab new pack of walking routes “A Walk in the Park” showing easy paths around Nottingham’s parks will be launched at this event.  Either pop along or call 0115 915 2733 for your free pack.

Did you know that Nottingham City Council’s Rights of Way Improvement Plan is award-winning?  It recently received an award for its integration with our Local Transport Plan.  Simply put that means the guys at the council are working together to improve our rights of way.  They want more of us on our feet cos they know that’ll make us all happier and healthier.  So in future you’ll find even better walking routes then we already have – isn’t that great?
